Your Banana

We hope you enjoy your Banana tree!

A single Banana cutting a decade ago has yeilded our house dozens of sapling offspring and years of indoor and outdoor flora fun. Your Banana Tree is actually a Flower, by definition. They grow quickly, in relatively little planting space or pots. Your Banana will thrive in a sunny spot, but can live OK in moderate light spaces.

Your Banana was likely recently repotted and may go throgh a brief adjustment period. For the first weeks, try to give it as much sun as possibel and water it thouroughly once weekly, to keep the soil moist. Once established , your Banana will require little attention and will appreicate lots of water. Its best to keep the soil around Your Banana mostly moist.

As Your Banana grows, the bottom leaves will turn yellow, and then wither as new stalks form from the top. Its best to allow the dying leaves to dry up mostly before trimming them off.

Occassionaly, a healthy mature Banana can sprout a big, wild looking purple flower and little pink pods. Usually, the flower signals the end of that Bananas life cycle and the stalk will begin to die. But, its OK, your Banana will have filled the pot with saplings and sprouts you can cultivate again.

Indoors, dry conditions can invite spider mites.  Spider mites are tinly little critter that live on the underside of the leaves and feed on the sap in its veins. You'll notice a lethargic plant with slow growth and yellowing top leaves. Tiny webs will form where the leaves and the stalks meet. Spider mites can be controlled reasonably easily with damp sponge, Castile soap or pestasides. Without treatment, Spider Mites will kill your Banana. Otherwise, your Banana is a pretty care free house plant and fantastic outdoor summer accent.

We expect you will have years of enjoyment with little hassles. You can call us anytime if you have questions. I'll try to answer them from my own experiecnce, but lots of stuff I know may be technically wrong.

 Cheers!
